DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled work involving responsibility for assisting in the performance of a variety of masonry tasks and odd jobs. Some skill and experience in building with stone, brick and/or concrete is required. Supervision is received from the Maintenance Mason or higher level Highways and Facilities Department staff. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Assists in building and repairing concrete bridges and retaining walls, and headwalls of concrete and rubble stone;
- Assists in building and repairing catch basins, manholes, guide posts and monuments;
- Assists in general highway construction and maintenance tasks;
- May operate a motor vehicle with snow plow, sander and related attachments in the removal of snow and ice;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions of the trade; ability to operate cement mixing equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of experience in building with stone, brick, and/or concrete.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
