License Plate Surrender
You do not need an appointment to surrender license plates at our DMV. You can visit our lobby window to surrender your license plates for a $1.00 processing fee. You can also use our after-hours drop box to deliver the plate surrender. If you use our after-hours drop box, please make sure to include your name, address, and the $1.00 processing fee.
After-hours Drop Box
Did you know that we have an after-hours drop box located at our Brewster DMV? You can take advantage of this service for any registration renewals, plate surrenders, or transactions that can be completed without the need to come into the office. Simply deposit the transaction, along with your contact information in the drop box and we will process it the next business day.

In order to register a vehicle, you will need an MV-82, Bill of Sale, Copy of driver’s license, sales tax form (DTF-802), Copy of the insurance card for the vehicle.

Real ID
The Federal REAL ID deadline is now May 7, 2025. Though not mandatory, we encourage everyone to obtain a REAL ID compliant identification today!
