ASSISTANT MAINTENANCE MASON

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS This is skilled work involving responsibility for assisting in the performance of a variety of masonry tasks and odd jobs. Direct supervision is received from the Maintenance Mason regarding tasks to be performed. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

  • Assists in building and repairing concrete bridges and retaining walls, and headwalls of concrete and rubble stone;
  • Assists in building and repairing catch basins, manholes, guide posts and monuments;
  • Assists in general highway construction and maintenance tasks;
  • May operate a motor vehicle with snow plow, sander and related attachments in the removal of snow and ice;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions of the trade; ability to operate cement mixing equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One (1) year of experience as a laborer.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
