CHIEF OF STAFF (DISTRICT ATTORNEY)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting the District Attorney in a variety of public and administrative capacities, such as managing staff and office operations, communications with media and the public, and specific assignments regarding inter-departmental operations as well as department functions. The Chief of Staff (District Attorney) serves as direct contact with the citizenry, the media, other municipal, official and community organizations. Work is performed under supervision of the District Attorney. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Assists the District Attorney in a variety of public and administrative capacities;
- Responds to telephone calls and visitors, resolves constituent complaints, handles media requests, press releases and furnishes general information about department functions and activities;
- Represents District Attorney when he is unavailable (including evenings, weekends, holidays);
- Oversees staff, assists with facilitating monthly management staff meetings and conducts monthly clerical/support staff meetings;
- Arranges appointments and meetings, prepares materials for them, and generally maintains the District Attorney’s and Assistant District Attorneys’ calendars;
- Oversees the maintenance of office records;
- Ensures department employees are current on all required training;
- Functions as administrator of Putnam County Intel;
- Assists in budget preparation and maintains budget control throughout the year;
- Oversees purchasing and inventory for the department;
- Coordinates office work activities and administrative matters;
- Conducts professional correspondence and communications with public and private agencies and programs;
- Maintains confidentiality as needed;
- Schedules and participates in interviews of potential new employees;
- Prepares materials and agendas for meetings;
- Prepares and processes required reports to various governmental offices;
- Acts as intermediary between the District Attorney and public and private agencies, County departments, etc., as needed;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.
