CPR INSTRUCTOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision of the Director of Emergency Medical Services, the incumbent of this position is responsible for providing CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) course instruction, in accordance with current American Heart Association (AHA) standards, conducted at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Training and Operations Center. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (illustrative only)
- Provides CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) course instruction, in accordance with current American Heart Association (AHA) standards;
- Monitors trainees’ progress and maintains records of trainee enrollment, attendance and performance;
- Submits trainee enrollment, attendance and performance records and provides overview of student skill progress to the Director of Emergency Medical Services at completion of course, or at any time such records are requested;
- Tests and evaluates trainees’ skills as necessary, in accordance with appropriate New York State and/or American Heart Association requirements and guidelines;
- Prepares and maintains any equipment used in CPR courses conducted at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Training and Operations Center;
- Performs a variety of related duties as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of theory, techniques and applicable laws, rules and regulations relative to CPR training; good knowledge of operation of specialized equipment utilized in CPR training; working knowledge of the effectiveness of training methodologies and techniques as related to CPR training; ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and meet special requirements as stated below.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Current verifiable American Heart Association Provider status at a level equal to or exceeding any course instructed.
- Current verifiable American Heart Association Instructor status in any discipline or specialized area covered by any course instructed.
