FOOD SERVICE CARRIER/CLEANER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS This is routine work involving delivery of food for school lunch programs. Duties also include assisting with loading and unloading, and assisting with organized storage of food and supplies, as well as maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment according to prescribed procedures. Work is performed under direct supervision of higher-level school district staff. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES(Illustrative only)

  • Operates light motor vehicles;
  • Collects, delivers and distributes food, food supplies, and other materials;
  • Assists with loading, unloading, and storage of food and supplies;
  • Cleans and maintains dishware, trays, cutlery, pots and pans, food preparation and other kitchen equipment, tables, floors, etc.;
  • May assist in the warming and simple cooking of foods for school lunch programs;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Good knowledge of the safe operation of light motor vehicles; knowledge of proper sanitary methods of food service; knowledge of proper sanitary cleaning methods, cleaning supplies and appliances in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen utensils and appliances; ability to drive safely and skillfully; ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to work well with others; tact and courtesy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma; or
  2. One (1) year of full-time work experience; or
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in a) and b) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:

In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
