It's National Engineers Week!

15 February 2024

The Putnam County Department of Health would like to recognize the work of the engineering division during National Engineers week. They are a great team of people that care deeply about their work: Gene Reed, Dylan Hoellger, Jess Darin, Corrie Tiso, Anthony Fricchione, and Joe Paravati.  They understand the impact of the work they do, and they go out of their way to help residents.

What Do Engineers Do?

Public health engineers work to maintain and manage a healthy environment across the county by reviewing and approving individual water supplies, community water supplies, and septic systems. The work that is done by our division is critical to protecting vital resources for the drinking water supply.  This is done by reviewing plans to ensure that homes, businesses and septic systems are built to function properly. Our engineering division also protects our water bodies by inspecting septic system leaks, preventing the addition of pollutants such as phosphorus and nitrogen into our water bodies, which causes issues like blue green algae blooms. Additionally, the engineering division works with homeowners when they need to repair their septic system or if people would like to expand their homes to make sure they have properly sized the septic system.
