Putnam County residents who rely on private wells now can apply for free well water testing for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The New York State Private Well PFAS Testing and Mitigation Rebate Pilot Program is currently accepting applications from people who live in Putnam County. Residents who have PFAS levels above New York State drinking water standards are eligible to apply for a rebate up to $5,000 for installing an in-home treatment system or up to $10,000 for connecting to a public water supply.
