Putnam County Small Business Spotlight –Froggy’s!
Welcome to Putnam County Small Business Spotlight where we will be highlighting small businesses in our community.
Small businesses are the backbone of Putnam County’s economy and part of the fabric of our beautiful towns and villages. When you shop locally, you are supporting your friends and neighbors.
[* The Small Business Spotlight segment will only feature businesses that target Tourism Visitor Spending which falls under the following categories: Food & Beverage, Retail, Lodging and Recreation/Entertainment. *]
On any given busy morning at Froggy’s in Brewster, owner Anthony Russo can be found doing just about everything, from cracking eggs for bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches to hauling out trash bags and working shoulder to shoulder with his employees.
For the Russo brothers, the hands on work is about more than serving food quickly. It is part of the family first culture Anthony and his brother, John Russo, have built at Froggy’s since taking a leap of faith more than a decade ago. What started as a local hometown deli has grown into the Froggy’s brand of sandwich shops, with six locations across New York and Connecticut and more to come.
For the Russo brothers, the goal is to continue growing while staying true to the values that helped build the business. In a conversation with Anthony Russo, you can’t help but be impressed by his energy and passion. He is a strong spokesperson for Froggy’s, which specializes in breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches on signature kaiser rolls and fresh, made to order chicken cutlets.
“A lot of people fail because of how they treat their employees,” said Anthony Russo, who grew up in Putnam Lake. “We are not like that. We come from humble beginnings, and we know what it is to work hard. I take pride in working with my employees and watching them grow in our company. We are family guys and this is a down-home business.”
The Russo brothers have spent most of their lives in the deli and pizzeria business. They opened the first Froggy’s in 2011 in Somers, New York, and later opened the Brewster location in 2019. Today, Froggy’s operates five other sandwich shops in Briarcliff Manor, Pawling, New Fairfield, Connecticut, Brookfield, Connecticut, and Somers, New York.
Froggy’s will be announcing a seventh location soon and hopes to keep adding sandwich shops. However, the Russo brothers’ philosophy will never change: take care of employees like family and customers like neighbors.
