MAHOPAC - For Michael and Leona McFadden, opening The Irish American was about more than launching a new restaurant. It was about creating a place where their Irish heritage and life in Putnam County could come together under one roof.
The restaurant’s name reflects that vision, and the result is a gathering place offering authentic Irish cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and a sense of community.
The couple brings deep Irish roots to the venture. Michael hails from County Donegal, while Leona is from County Down. Though they have built their lives in the U.S., they remain closely connected to their homeland and wanted to share that connection with Putnam County residents.
Loyal patrons enjoy traditional Irish fare, Irish coffees, and a cold beer. The Irish American serves a delicious range of classic Irish dishes, from hearty Shepherd’s Pie to perfectly poured pints of Guinness, alongside all-American favorites such as signature burgers. It is the perfect place to watch a game, enjoy a pint, and spend time with friends and loved ones.
As they welcome loyal patrons and new guests, the McFadden’s hope visitors leave with more than a good meal. They want them to experience the warmth, hospitality, and traditions that have long been hallmarks of Irish culture.
