Registered Professional Nurse (OSR)
The Putnam County Office for Senior Resources is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Registered Professional Nurse.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This is professional nursing work involving outreach work as well. Responsibilities include initiation of health and wellness promotion and disease prevention programs. Additional responsibilities include periodic re‑evaluation of individual senior clients and/or family needs. Work may be performed at the Office for Senior Resources and/or nutrition sites and is performed under general direction. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Assesses clients’ conditions, including economic factors and overall wellness;
- Provides ongoing outreach to program participants regarding general health programs;
- Works directly with clients or their designees to identify agencies and individuals potentially useful to the client;
- Re-evaluates, at periodic intervals, the client’s needs and goals;
- Initiates health promotion and disease prevention program at nutrition sites and other designated areas;
- Participates in and arranges for various activities and screening for health conditions, such as hypertension screening, diabetic support groups, etc.;
- Schedules various health programs and activities and coordinates on-going wellness clinics;
- Disseminates information concerning service programs for seniors including preparing pamphlets, flyers, news releases, surveys, articles for newsletters involving wellness, outreach, health matters and related topics;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
a) Completion of an accredited course of training for registered nursing and two (2) years of experience in nursing; or
b) Completion of an accredited course of training for Practical Nursing and three (3) years of experience in nursing.
PLEASE NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possession of a license to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State at time of appointment and throughout employment, or possession of a valid license and current registration to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State at time of appointment and throughout employment.
2. Access to transportation may be required to complete possible field work assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
NOTE: Qualifications and requirements are in accordance with New York State Education Law, Article 139, Sections 6900 to 6910 (“Nurse Practice Act”)
SCHEDULE: 5-hour shift, Monday-Friday, 25 hrs/wk
STARTING SALARY: $49,305 per year
