Spring Cleaning Checklist: Mattresses, box springs and more
Are you spring cleaning? In addition to the usual springtime recycling and disposal events offered in Putnam County, there is now a way to recycle old mattresses and box springs at a drop-off event. A mattress and box spring recycling event will take place on May 30 from 8:30 am to 11:00 am at 526 Gage Road in Patterson. This free event is open to Putnam County residents. Each household is allowed to bring up to four mattresses and/or boxsprings. Registration is required and can be done at https://PutnamMattressRecycling.eventbrite.com.
Putnam County is partnering with Casella Waste Management for this first-time event. The mattresses will be broken down into separate components and each of those materials will be recycled into a new product. Items brought to this event should be clean, dry, and ready for unloading upon arrival.
For those who missed Medication Take Back Day on April 25, there are still options for safely disposing of old medications. Many pharmacies and police departments in Putnam County have drop boxes available all year round to dispose of old medications. A full list can be found at https://preventioncouncilputnam.org/medication-return-programs/
The next Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day event is planned for early October. Residents who would like to be notified when registration opens for the October event can sign up at https://forms.office.com/g/bG3sWgpDQ0.
The towns in Putnam are also offering electronic recycling events this spring:
