DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is primarily repetitive semi-skilled manual labor in connection with the maintenance of municipal water and sewer treatment plants. Work is performed under the direct supervision with some latitude for independent judgment in carrying out specific assignments. Supervision is not a function of this class. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Maintains and repairs buildings and grounds;
- Paints, cleans and maintains a water or sewer treatment plant;
- Cleans sand beds;
- Repairs pumps, hydrants and water meters;
- Read water meters;
- Maintains sludge holding tanks and settling tanks;
- May perform minor maintenance to motor vehicles;
- Maintains hydrants in the water district;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the maintenance, cleaning and repair activities related to the operation of water and sewer treatment plants; good knowledge of the tools, terminology and procedures utilized in making semi-skilled repairs to the equipment utilized in operating water and sewer treatment plants; good knowledge of safety precautions; ability to perform semi-skilled repairs; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; reliability; thoroughness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of experience in making repairs, and maintenance to pumps, compressors, motor equipment or related equipment.
