YOUTH AIDE

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS Work involves assisting in the development and implementation of a variety of youth based programming including content creation.  Work is performed under direct supervision of the Youth Bureau Executive Director, Youth Service Specialist, and Youth Program Specialists. Teamwork and initiative are important aspects of this work. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

  • Assists with the development of Mentoring/Adventure Camp program content;
  • Assists with the development of Youth Court program content;
  • Assists with the development of SIDNE program content;
  • Organizes and leads planned activities;
  • Tracks and keeps records of equipment and supplies used;
  • Works collaboratively;
  • Facilitates groups;
  • Networks with other persons involved in a myriad of programs;
  • May operate a variety of office equipment to maintain records of attendance, equipment, vendors, programs, etc.;
  • Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing , calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of computers including social media; working knowledge of the typical problems and needs of modern youth; working knowledge of the organization and operation of community agencies; working knowledge of positive youth development programming and principles;  good knowledge of community agencies, facilities and services which can be utilized to aid youth; working knowledge of community organization techniques; ability to clearly present program goals and to work with diverse staff; ability to work independently and in a team; ability to travel to locations, ability to work evenings and weekends; ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in person; ability to follow directions; organized; team player; tact; resourcefulness; diplomacy; leadership; integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school, or a comparable diploma, and one (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with youth of diverse populations, including at-risk youth, recruiting for, developing, and administering youth programs and activities.

SUBSTITUTION NOTE: Post-secondary level education may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience indicated above on the basis of thirty (30) college credits per year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
