Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! Being a new parent can be a wild experience. Here at the Putnam County Department of Health, we want to help you and your family navigate this exciting time. That’s why we created this website just for you.
The Clinical Services division of the Department of Health has two programs for home visits available to new parents in Putnam County: the Newborn Home Visiting Program and the Child Find Program. Each program is explained below in more detail.
Our Newborn Home Visiting Program works to assess each family’s health and social needs, and to provide a link between families and the wide array of health and social services that exist in the community to meet those needs. During these visits, specially trained health department nurses are available to provide breastfeeding education and support for new parents. Information about infant care, nutrition, growth and development, parenting skills, and coping is also provided. A depression screening may also be conducted, with recommendations made if needed.
The Child Find Program consists of home visits to monitor the development of infants and toddlers at risk for developmental delays. Some of the reasons for a Child Find visit include but are not limited to prematurity, disabilities, and parenting concerns. Health department nurses conduct evidence-based developmental screenings based on age for all children in this program and make referrals when appropriate.
For questions or to schedule a visit for either of these programs, please call 845-808-1390 and ask to speak to a Maternal Child Health nurse.
