Aging Services Aide II

The Putnam County Office for Senior Resources is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Aging Services Aide II. 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Work involves providing direct care and assistance of various types to senior citizens, in support of Office for Senior Resources (OSR) transportation programs and related activities. Duties include facilitation and support duties for transportation programs, communicating with and assisting senior citizens in need of transportation services. Collects completed driver logs, client surveys and other documentation, to give to appropriate OSR staff. Assists with communication leading to scheduling of routine maintenance of County-owned vehicles. Acts as liaison between OSR and County Highway Department relative to care and maintenance of OSR Transportation vehicles. Work is performed under direct supervision of higher level OSR staff. Supervision is not a responsibility. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Accepts reservation requests from seniors for transportation to medical appointments and/or other acceptable destinations, within acceptable timeframes;
  • Canvasses list of approved volunteer drivers to find available driver, and confirms trip with
  • requesting senior and driver;
  • Reminds drivers to maintain logs of all trips;
  • Verifies drivers’ trip logs and volunteer hours;
  • Collects evidence-based satisfaction surveys about OSR transportation programs from seniors;
  • Works directly with senior citizens or their delegates to help identify and meet needs;
  • Explains, informs, and distributes material relative to transportation services and benefits available in the community;
  • Assists senior citizens in understanding various programs and benefits;
  • Monitors routine maintenance schedule to ensure timely maintenance of County-owned vehicles;
  • Monitors vehicle conditions to ensure timely vehicle fueling, cleaning, snow and ice removal, etc.;
  • Acts as liaison between OSR and County Highway Department garage;
  • Reports mileage, fuel consumption, and related usages to appropriate OSR staff;
  • May drive a passenger vehicle to provide transportation for senior citizens, as needed;
  • Performs a variety of related activities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday through Friday

STARTING SALARY: $44,121
