EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES EDUCATION COORDINATOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Work involves overall responsibility for directing and coordinating the planning, organization, evaluation of effectiveness, and administration of all training courses conducted at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Training and Operations Center. These responsibilities include involvement in the preparation and management of budget for training and education programs, advising students and assessing student learning outcomes, and creating and maintaining relationships within the local community, state and national emergency services education agencies. Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Emergency Medical Services. Supervision is provided to lower level employees such as Certified Instructor Coordinators and Lab Instructors. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (illustrative only)
- Administers all training courses and classes, including scheduling of classes and facilities, training sessions, supplemental courses, etc., instructor assignments, and use of technology within the learning environment;
- Ensures that course content follows New York State and U.S. Department of Transportation requirements, guidelines and protocols, while incorporating local concerns and issues;
- Coordinates the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of part-time instructors within the program;
- Oversees the professional development, training, and evaluation of part-time instructors within the program;
- Serves as American Heart Association training center coordinator and fulfills all duties and responsibilities as outlined by the American Heart Association Program Administration Manual;
- Advises and provides support to EMS students, and assesses student learning outcomes to ensure quality learning opportunities for students;
- Participates in the development and administration of the EMS budget, including making recommendations regarding funds needed for staffing, equipment, and supplies;
- Participates in advisory and program/instruction committees, county and community service activities to create and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders;
- Develops strong partnerships with state and national emergency services education agencies;
- Teaches weekly contact hours as directed throughout the year;
- Performs a variety of related duties as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of relevant theory, techniques and applicable laws, rules and regulations, of various emergency services areas of training; good knowledge of operation of specialized equipment utilized in emergency services; good knowledge of budgeting and appropriation practices; good knowledge of the effectiveness of various training methodologies and motivational techniques; ability to develop training programs incorporating different teaching approaches and meeting specific instructional needs; ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and five (5) years of experience as an emergency medical technician, of which two (2) years shall have been in an education or supervisory position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession and maintenance of a current, valid Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
- Possession and maintenance of a current, valid Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) certification issued by New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
- Possession and maintenance of a current, valid Basic Life Support Instructor certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Access to transportation may be required to complete possible field work assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

Mission Statement
