DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine manual work involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of various types of motor vehicle equipment. This title differs from Motor Equipment Operator in that incumbents of this title operate lighter and/or smaller equipment. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over the activities of laborers. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Operates a motor vehicle in connection with the transportation of materials to worksite;
- Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment;
- Performs manual labor, such as loading trucks, digging ditches and cleaning culverts;
- Operates motorized lawnmowing and tree trimming equipment;
- Under supervision, may operate heavier equipment as directed;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the operation of automotive equipment; good knowledge of the geography of the area; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; manual dexterity; industry; willingness to respond to emergencies; dependability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One (1) year of experience in the operation of some type of automotive equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
