MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN I
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under general supervision of the Commissioner of Highways and Facilities, the incumbent installs, maintains and repairs electrical supply and power systems, appliances and equipment. Work assignments are initiated by oral instructions or written work orders and are checked upon completion with only occasional supervision during the course of a job. Supervision may be exercised over a subordinate staff. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
- Plans layout of, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment;
- Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance consistent with specifications and local electrical codes;
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring;
- Installs wiring, outlets and fixtures;
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduits;
- Connects power cables to equipment, such as motors, and installs grounding leads;
- Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels;
- Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components;
- Performs other electrical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks as required;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the tools, processes, terminology and techniques associated with electrical trades; good knowledge of accident and safety precautions of the trade; ability to do a wide variety of electrical repair work with a high degree of skill; ability to coordinate work with the work of other trades; ability to read blueprints and rough sketches; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to get along with others; resourcefulness in work performance; initiative in completing assigned work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven and one half (7½) years of experience in electrical construction, including residential, commercial, or industrial construction.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Licensure as a Master Electrician by the Putnam County Board of Electrical Examiners at time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted, appropriate level driver’s license, and acceptable driving record are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Mission Statement
