Resolution #198, APPROVAL – LOCAL LAW ADOPTING THE OPTIONAL REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES OF POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY FOR COUNTY TAX PURPOSES ONLY
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public hearing will be held before the County Executive of the County of Putnam at Room #102 of the County Office Building, 40 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, New York 10512 on the 26th day of August, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. concerning:
APPROVAL – LOCAL LAW ADOPTING THE OPTIONAL REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES OF POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY FOR COUNTY TAX PURPOSES ONLY
Amending the Code of the County of Putnam, as approved and re-adopted by the Putnam County Legislature on August 4, 2026 by resolution #198, by adding Chapter 471 to the Code, entitled “REAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES OF POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY”.
Chapter 471 be added, to provide a Putnam County Tax Exemption for the surviving spouse of a police officer killed in the line of duty. The exemption consists of a 50% reduction in the assessed value or qualifying real property owned by the surviving spouse of a police officer killed in the line of duty provided the property constitutes the surviving spouse’s primary residence and otherwise qualified under Real Property Tax Law § 471.
