Automotive Mechanic (Diesel) (16 hrs/wk)
SOME TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Performs skilled operations in repairing and overhauling gasoline and diesel motor equipment including trucks, buses, tractors, graders, bulldozers and power shovels, and a variety of specialty equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, springs, rear-end and front loaders, hydraulics, fuel systems, air systems and air leaks;
- Repairs or replaces water pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors and shock absorbers;
- Assembles and times engines;
- Mounts and detaches snow plow blades and other auxiliary equipment;
- Repairs or overhauls ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches and axles;
- Adjusts connecting rods and bearings;
- Straightens frames and fenders;
- Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels;
- Repairs and maintains auxiliary equipment on trucks, graders and rollers;
- Uses specialized hand and power tools to make and complete repairs including welding and fabrication tools and materials;
- Operates electric and/or acetylene welding and cutting equipment;
- May be assigned to back up Lead or Head Automotive Mechanic;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appointee must provide and maintain personal tools necessary to perform daily automotive repairs.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in the State of New York, with endorsements appropriate to the type of motor equipment being operated, and acceptable driving record, are required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
NOTE: Candidates for appointment must consent to the running of a full query of the FMCSA Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 16 hours/week
PAY: $25-$30 per hour, dependent on experience
