Stefanie Morgado, a pastry chef, always hoped to operate her own bakery.

That opportunity arrived during the COVID-19 pandemic when she was working as a chef for a large restaurant group in New York City. Due to the shutdown, Stefanie had to quickly pivot, and she decided to open The Baker’s Daughter on Fair Street in Carmel. She runs this popular bakery with her husband, Luis Morgado, for more than three years.

The Baker’s Daughter has a full coffee menu and specializes in cookies, croissants, made-to-order cakes, cookies, cupcakes, scones and its most popular item, Portuguese custard tarts. Stefanie Morgado’s father, Miguel, was a baker in Lisbon and inspired her to become a pastry chef.

You can often find Miguel in the kitchen baking with the baker’s daughter herself, Stefanie. While Stefanie enjoyed working in NYC, she loves being a part of the Carmel community. She knows most of her customers by their first name and is familiar with their decadent orders. Stefanie and Luis live in Carmel with their two children and have given back to the community in many ways.
