PUTNAM COUNTY YOUTH COURT to Honor the 20th Anniversary of 9/11
The Putnam County Youth Bureau is excited to announce that the Putnam County Youth Court Program has been selected as 1 of only 25 Youth/Teen/Student/Peer Court and Peer Jury Diversion Programs in America to be highlighted for the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Day of National Service on September 11, 2021. Youth Court members and community volunteers from Putnam County, New York, including the Bureau of Emergency Services, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency, the Carmel Fire Department, the Putnam County Youth Bureau and Youth Board and representatives from Putnam County’s Annual September 11th Candlelight Vigil Committee have begun planning a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by joining in patriotic acts of volunteer service as part of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, commonly known as 9/11 Day.
The ceremony will take place at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, Donald B. Smith County Government Campus, 112 Old Route 6, Carmel, NY and will begin at 8:46:40 a.m., to commemorate the time that Flight 11 crashed into the north face of the North Tower (1 WTC) of the World Trade Center, between floors 93 and 99, with a moment of silence and the raising of the 9/11 Flag of Honor containing the names of those who died on that day. The ceremony will include the reading of names by Youth Court members.
9/11 Day is a chance to recapture the spirit of unity that swept the nation in the aftermath of 9/11, while paying tribute with acts of service to those lost on September 11, 2001, heroic first responders, and the countless others who serve to defend the nation’s freedom at home and around the globe.
