About Sybil’s story:
There are few legends in American history that portray young, fearless females — and Sybil Ludington provides just that. Her incredible story tells of a brave teenage girl who rode horseback through the night on April 26, 1777, calling her neighbors to arms during the War for Independence.
Passed down through generations of the Ludington family, Sybil’s ride is a treasured tale in Putnam County. It's a story of courage, resilience, and patriotism — a shining example of rising to the challenge and helping others in a time of need.
Sybil Ludington is more than a local hero — she’s an original American girl. Sybil is “Girl Power.”
