Town of Carmel - Red Mills Historic Markers Refurbished

The Revolutionary War themed historic markers in Red Mills Park were recently refurbished and are looking great thanks to CO Matt Amato of the Putnam County Sheriff Department’s Community Work Program, Craig Moran, James McGovern, and Don Ehrenreich of the DPW—as well as artist-in-residence, Dana Veitinger of the Historian’s Office, who stepped in to do the painting. Special thanks also to George Whipple for his generous support!

Next time you’re in Mahopac be sure to check out the markers as well as all of the great local history panels in Red Mills Park. So much Revolutionary War history in our backyard! These were a labor of love by former County Historians Allan Warnecke and Sallie Sypher.

Welcome to the Putnam County Historian’s Office and Archives! We are located in Brewster, New York, in the lower Hudson River Valley region.

Our local government office preserves, interprets, and promotes the history of Putnam County. New York’s Town and Village Historians have been serving public history since 1919, in part to document World War I Veterans back into civilian life.
