What is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County (August 2024 Edition)

We asked our followers on Facebook and Instagram, what is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County, and we got some great responses.
Each month we want to hear from you on your favorite places to visit (attractions, historical sites, restaurants, shops etc.) and we will highlight them.

Plan a visit to the following followers’ suggestions:

  1. Carmel Creamery
    Premium handcrafted ice cream using Hudson Valley Fresh dairy! Natural & Dye-Free! Vegan ice cream is also available!

  2. Sweet E’s Ice Cream
    Locally made fresh ice cream. Opened W-Th 2-8pm, Fri-Sat 12-8pm, Sun 12-5pm. Closed Mon-Tues.

  3. Freight House Café
    Built in the spring of 1872, The Freight House was the first building constructed for the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad branch.  This line serviced freight and passengers from Golden's Bridge to Grand Central Terminal for more than 50 years. Dine under the trees during the week from 9am-3pm and Friday nights 7pm-10pm on their outdoor deck which is right off the North County bike trail.  Dogs are welcome on the outside deck only.

  4. Petra Island
    Discover the Beauty of Petra Island in Mahopac, NY.  The Chahroudi House is an authentic Wright building.
    The Massaro House is based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s original drawings.

  5. Putnam Valley Library
    Libraries are a vessel of knowledge and the books within them allow readers to utilize their imagination. Putnam Valley Library offers daily activities for their patrons. They even have a 3-d printer that people can use to print their designs.

  6. West Point Foundry Preserve
    The West Point Foundry was a major American ironworking and machine shop site in Cold Spring, New York, operating from 1818 to about 1911. Initiated after the War of 1812, it became most famous for its production of Parrott rifle artillery and other munitions during the Civil War. A trail pass remains of foundry buildings and site has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
