What is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County? (December 2024 Edition)
We asked our followers on Facebook and Instagram, what is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County, and we got some great responses.
Each month we will want to hear from you on your favorite places to visit (attractions, historical sites, restaurants, shops etc.) and we will highlight them.
Plan a visit to the following followers’ suggestions:
1) Brewster Public Library
Libraries are a vessel of knowledge and the books within them allow readers to utilize their imagination. Brewster Public Library (serving the Town of Southeast since 1896) offers daily activities for their patrons.

2) Village of Cold Spring
An hour north of NYC, Cold Spring is quickly becoming a hot spot to visit in New York State. A stunning and quaint village nestled along the Hudson River is an ideal place to take a relaxing day trip. The village has great boutiques, fine dining and historical sites to explore.
3) Lake Mahopac
In the heart of Putnam County, is beautiful Lake Mahopac. A great spot to take your boat out to fish or simply relax.
4) The Great Swamp
The largest freshwater wetlands in the state of New York, covering over 6,000 acres in the eastern parts Putnam (Towns of Patterson & Southeast) and Dutchess Counties. Take a paddle through the watersheds and interact with a beaver or two. You can also take a hike on several trails at one of the following locations Michael Ciaiola Conservation Area, Ice Pond Preserve, Clough Preserve, Patterson Environmental Park and Green Chimneys Beach.
5) Hudson Valley Shakespeare
Hudson Valley Shakespeare (formerly known as Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival) has been in operation for 37 years will now have a permanent home in the heart of the Hudson Highlands. They are about to begin building a world class LEED Platinum purpose-built theater, first of its kind in the nation. Hudson Valley Shakespeare recently announced the lineup of their 2025 Season
