IMPORTANT NOTICE - Breakneck Ridge Trailhead Closure

19 March 2025

Breakneck Ridge Trailhead to Close for a Two-Year Period as Construction Begins on Breakneck Connector and Bridge.

Breakneck Ridge, other area trails, and the adjacent Breakneck Ridge Metro-North Station will close on April 21, 2025, as part of the construction of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail's Breakneck Connector and Bridge project in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve.

During this period, there will be no parking along Route 9D north of the Breakneck tunnel.

Hikers will still be able to enjoy Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve during the closure!

The Washburn/Cornish trailheads, Notch Trail, and Little Stony Point will remain open and accessible to the public while construction is underway.

It is important to note that there will be very limited parking available during this period, and all visitors who can are urged to use the train to access the trails.

For those craving panoramic Hudson Highlands views, there will still be some great experiences nearby:

  • Washburn/Cornish trailheads provide access to both Bull Hill and upper Breakneck viewpoints
  • Notch trail rewards hikers with a great view across the river
  • The Little Stony Point Overlook Trail offers a scenic view without rigorous hiking

Mt. Beacon, just south of Beacon, offers a great hike up to the fire tower on the ridge.
