What is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County January 2025
We asked our followers on Facebook and Instagram, what is your favorite place to visit in Putnam County, and we got some great responses. Each month we will want to hear from you on your favorite places to visit (attractions, historical sites, restaurants, shops etc.) and we will highlight them. Plan a visit to the following followers’ suggestions:
1) Constitution Island
Travel back in time to the American Revolution war era and visit Constitution Island. An historic American Landmark directly across from our nation’s oldest Military Academy West Point. Learn about the inspiration and ingenuity of the Great Chain, tales of the brave men who fought for our nation’s independence and finally learn about the Warner sisters and their widowed father who destined to live the rest of their lives on the Island. Constitution Island has private tours that require reservations.

2) Appalachian Trail
Explore this 11.0-mile loop trail near Putnam Valley, New York. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 4.5 hours to complete. This trail is great for backpacking, camping, and hiking, and it is unlikely you will encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through November. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

3) Constitution Marsh
Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary is a unique and beautiful tidal marsh located in Putnam County, New York, and serves as vital natural habitat in the Hudson River Estuary. It is situated on the east shore of the Hudson River, just south of the village of Cold Spring. The marsh is an Audubon New York Important Bird Area, a New York State Bird Conservation Area, and is designated as a Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife Habitat.
The Constitution Marsh Visitor Center is currently closed. However, our hiking trails are open every day from sunrise to sunset.

4) Sacred Heart Gifts & Apparel

5) Diverting Reservoir Trail
This 3.1 mile trail opened in August 2014. The trail is located alongside the Diverting Reservoir, a water supply property owned by New York City. The Diverting Reservoir holds 900 million gallons at full capacity, is one of 12 reservoirs in New York City’s Croton Water Supply System, and is the smallest of the city’s 19 reservoirs.
