Byrne Taps Barrett as Next Director of OSR
Carmel, NY – Today, Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne announced the nomination of Marlene Barrett as the next Director of the Office for Senior Resources (OSR). Barrett, who currently serves as Deputy Director of OSR, is set to succeed outgoing Director Michael Cunningham, who is retiring after years of dedicated service.
“Marlene Barrett has been an integral part of the Office for Senior Resources for over a decade,” said County Executive Kevin Byrne. “Her experience, dedication, and leadership make her an excellent choice to lead OSR as we continue to provide high-quality programs and services for Putnam County’s senior community. I thank Director Michael Cunningham for his exceptional service and am confident that Marlene will build upon his legacy.”
Barrett joined OSR as a caseworker in 2011, where she worked directly with Putnam County’s senior population to address their needs and concerns. Her consistent commitment and skill in serving the community led to her promotion to Deputy Director in April 2023. In this role, she has helped oversee the department’s operations, programs, and initiatives to support the growing needs of seniors throughout the county.
“It has been an honor to work for OSR and serve our senior community for over a decade,” said Barrett. “I am deeply grateful to County Executive Byrne for this nomination and to Director Cunningham for his mentorship and leadership. If confirmed, I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our seniors receive the resources and care they deserve.”
Legislator Amy Sayegh, Vice Chair of the Legislature and Chair of the Health Committee said, “Marlene Barrett is an outstanding choice for this role. Her deep knowledge of OSR and her passion for serving our senior residents make her uniquely qualified to lead the department. I look forward to working with her as she continues to enhance the lives of seniors in Putnam County.”
The nomination of Marlene Barrett as Director of OSR is subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the Putnam County Legislature, as required by the Putnam County Charter.
The Office for Senior Resources provides critical services to Putnam County’s senior residents, including nutrition programs, transportation, and social activities aimed at promoting independence, wellness, and community engagement.
