Putnam County Executive Byrne Press Briefing Regarding Migrant Crisis
Carmel, NY – Earlier today, at a bi-partisan press briefing, Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne joined Dutchess County Executive Bill O’Neill (R), Town of Fishkill Supervisor Ozzy Albra (D), and a number local officials from Dutchess and Putnam, provided updates on all three municipalities declaring states of emergency with regards to the ongoing migrant crisis in New York State. At the briefing, all three leaders stressed the need for cooperation and transparency from New York City and New York State, and the need for a long-term solution from the federal government.
At the briefing, County Executive Byrne said, “local governments are being forced to address this issue because of decades of failed policy from the federal government. New York City didn’t create this problem, but their actions have served to exacerbate it. We want to do the opposite of what New York City has done to date; we want to act in concert with our neighbors in the region and maintain open lines of communication, despite party affiliations.”

Welcome Message
“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
