Sprout Brook Road Bridge Replacement Completed
GARRISON, NY – Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne announced today the completion of a critical piece of infrastructure replacement in Philipstown. The Sprout Brook Road bridge over Canopus Creek was an aging span whose proximity to the two-county Continental Village District posed a challenge to vehicular connectivity to area residences. The bridge was replaced with a new, 28-foot-wide span and opened to morning traffic on September 23. With the completion of a new Sprout Brook Road bridge, Putnam County today has zero “red-flagged” bridges with one or more structural defects compared with six in 2020. Federal funding covered 95% of the bridge replacement’s total project cost.
“As I said at our forum at Continental Village Clubhouse on January 14, we appreciated everyone’s understanding and patience during this important infrastructure project. I’d like to congratulate DPW Commissioner Feighery, his team, and county contractor Montesano Brothers on a job well done, but most of all, I’d like to thank and acknowledge the residents of Continental Village for their patience and understanding throughout this process. I realize this has been difficult for many of you. It’s also important to recognize Legislator Nancy Montgomery for her advocacy on this project, as well. She helped make it a priority. The safety and well-being of our residents will always come first, and I am pleased to see this crucial connection between Putnam and Westchester counties replaced in a timely way that protects local taxpayers,” said Byrne.
Legislator Nancy Montgomery added, “I’m proud to see the completion of the Sprout Brook Road bridge replacement, a project I’ve long advocated for on behalf of Philipstown residents. This bridge is a critical link for the Continental Village community, and its safe replacement was a top priority. I want to thank County Executive Byrne, Commissioner Feighery, and the entire DPW team for working together to ensure this project was delivered efficiently and with significant federal funding, protecting local taxpayers. Most importantly, I want to thank the residents for their patience during construction. Their understanding made this success possible.”

Welcome Message
“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
