County Conducts Alternate Emergency Operation Center Drill
Carmel, NY – Earlier today, Putnam County conducted a drill activating the Alternate Emergency Operation Center. Earlier this year, officials identified the Putnam County Golf Course as the primary back-up EOC in the event that, during an emergency, the main EOC at the Bureau of Emergency Services in Carmel is unable to function.
The drill was conducted by the Bureau of Emergency Services, and the scenario involved a severe rainfall event causing major flooding and due to conditions the main EOC was deemed inaccessible. The county regularly conducts trainings and drills to ensure top level preparedness in the event of a real emergency.
In attendance were representatives from nearly all county departments, including the Bureau, Health, Social Services & Mental Health, Public Works, Senior Resources, Planning & Transportation, in addition to representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and County Executive Kevin Byrne and his staff.
