Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne Launches Tax Survey to Gather Resident Input on Future Tax Cuts

18 February 2025

CARMEL, NY – Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne and his administration are seeking direct input from residents through a new six-question tax survey designed to gauge public knowledge and preferences on taxation in the county. As Byrne prepares his next Putnam County Budget Proposal, he is looking to implement historic tax cuts once again and wants to ensure the changes reflect what is most beneficial and meaningful for taxpayers.

The survey, available online at PutnamCountyNY.gov/salestaxsurvey, is short and simple, allowing residents to share their perspectives on county taxes and potential tax reductions.

“This administration is committed to cutting taxes and keeping more money in the pockets of Putnam County residents,” said County Executive Byrne. “We’ve already delivered two consecutive years of tax cuts while borrowing less and achieving more. I want us to continue on this path of fiscal responsibility. Before we begin crafting our next budget proposal, I want to hear directly from the people on what would be most advantageous for them.”

Byrne has made reducing the tax burden on residents a key priority since taking office. In previous budgets, his administration successfully removed all sales tax from clothing and footwear under $110, and cut the property tax rate to it’s lowest rate in 18 years, all while maintaining strong financial stability for the county. This survey is another step in ensuring that future tax reductions align with public sentiment.

Putnam County residents are encouraged to take the survey and have their voices heard in shaping the next budget. The survey is available now at PutnamCountyNY.gov/salestaxsurvey.

Welcome Message

“Remember that Putnam County is home. Regardless of what may make us different as individuals, it is our respect for each-other as neighbors, our desire to step up and serve, to lend a hand, and leave this beautiful county better off than we found it. That is what makes this place so special. It is with that in mind that we as a county government are here to serve, and will always serve, with a desire to do better.” - Kevin M.
